Some people write lyrics first. Some people transcribe melodies. Some people figure out chord progressions on the guitar. Other people tap out rhythms on the table. All of these beginnings can lead to a great song, but many songs have been lost just because their writers didn’t have a good way to put them on paper.

VCVCBC is a songwriter’s tool that helps you get the song out of your head. You can start from any element – lyrics, melody, chords or rhythm.

Got a melody in your head? You don’t have to know piano keys – just slide your finger until you find the pitch in your head. The app allows you to set a key and scale – even based on the last note you played, but all the notes are still there.

There are over 20 sets of common chord progressions that you can assign to a playable guitar. Once you find some chords you like, just drag them over to the napkin or song. Then, tap on a chord and you can flip through them to play the song live.

Tap your rhythm out on common surfaces, like tabletops, chairs and steering wheels. Find rhymes with the rhyming dictionary.

Then, put them together in a song by combining lyrics and chords. Each line of the song can hold a melodic or rhythmic “sketch” so you remember what the song was supposed to sound like.
